From Resonance to Action: A Mother Tree Proposal
A practical structure for Working Groves, cross-pollination, and shared action

Small Working Groups connected to the main group.
Fed by one short intake form that maps who is interested in what.
Fill it out once and you become findable to collaborators, projects, and roles that fit what you are passionate about.

Judy Grupenhoff’s essay on systems thinkers and pattern-seers opened a door many
people immediately recognized. Human Transition gathered around that recognition: the sense that some minds are built to see across disciplines, hold multiple streams of meaning at once, and notice patterns before they are easy to explain.
The response has been alive, generous, strange, brilliant, and wide-ranging. People have arrived with different vocabularies, backgrounds, spiritual orientations, technical capacities, questions, projects, and forms of urgency. That diversity is part of the strength.
A practical question is now surfacing: how can a group this large move from resonance into action while preserving the cross-pollination that made the group valuable in the first place?
This proposal is offered in gratitude for the Human Transition community Judy sparked through her original essay, and in response to the lively conversation that followed about how resonance might become action.

All captured information is used only within this group. It will not be used to spam you or to breach any participant’s privacy in any way. Contact details are never public. Aliases, handles, and pen names are welcome.
The only details gathered are what helps this group function better: who wants to build what, together. The data you provide will populate light automation that will reduce administrative burden for any one person.
Abundance Needs Routing
Large groups often begin with recognition. People find one another. Stories pour in. Ideas branch quickly. Threads multiply. A shared field starts to form.
Then the abundance itself becomes hard to navigate. Important ideas get buried. Similar projects appear in different corners without finding one another. People with useful skills may miss the people who need those skills. Some conversations turn into extended position-taking. Other conversations hold the seed of real projects, but the thread format makes it hard to carry them forward.
This is the natural next stage of a living community. The group does not need to become rigid. A simple way to route energy may help it to flourish and evolve.
The Mother Tree / Working Groves structure is my contribution to that next-stage question: how can a large, diverse, pattern-seeing community begin to organize without losing the openness and curiosity that makes it alive?
The Mother Tree
The image I keep returning to is the Mother Tree.
The original Human Transition Substack group can remain the core Mother Tree: the central trunk, shared canopy, and living root system where ideas, questions, reflections, and public conversation continue to circulate.
A Mother Tree does not require every branch to grow in the same direction. It holds a larger ecology. It allows many forms of life to gather, exchange resources, send signals, and grow from the same rooted field.
In this structure, the main group remains the place for cross-pollination. It stays open, porous, and alive. The next layer would be smaller project spaces connected back to the Mother Tree.
Working Groves
I propose calling these smaller project spaces Working Groves.
A Working Grove is a focused subgroup gathered around a project, question, or area of action. It is small enough to move, clear enough to coordinate, and connected enough to bring what it learns back into the larger Human Transition ecology.
A Grove gives people a place to build while keeping the main group open for wider reflection and exchange.
Each Grove could have a clear focus, one or two initial stewards, a simple communication space, a shared document or project page, a way to report back to the Mother Tree, and one practical first action.
The aim is coordinated branching.
The First Practical Step
A simple first step is an intake form. The form makes the following clear:
What areas people are interested in
The skills or experience they can offer
Opportunities to describe project ideas they are already developing
How much involvement is realistic right now
Whether they would be willing to help in one or more roles detailed below.
From there, responses could feed into a shared map. The map could help identify the first two or three Groves with enough people, energy, and practical capacity to begin.
This should be easy to use. People should be able to enter their information once and have it flow into the larger map without anyone manually rebuilding the structure every time a new person joins.
The goal is to make participation easier while reducing the coordination burden on any one person.
Simple Automation
Some of this can be supported by simple automation. Responses from the intake form could be gathered into a shared spreadsheet or database. Themes could be clustered. Similar project ideas could be surfaced. People interested in related work could find one another more easily. Weekly or biweekly summaries could be drafted, reviewed by humans, and posted back to the Mother Tree.
Tools can help with sorting, clustering, summarizing, and continuity. Humans should hold the judgment, ethics, invitations, boundaries, consent, and final decisions.
This matters especially in a group full of systems thinkers. The system we build should reduce burden, increase clarity, and preserve human agency.

Possible First Working Groves
A few possible first Groves have already begun to suggest themselves through the conversations here. These are starting points. The real Groves should emerge from the people who want to participate.
Coordination and Infrastructure Grove
For people interested in organizing the practical architecture: intake forms, shared maps, communication tools, project directories, and light automation.
📖 Shared Language / Living Orientation Grove
For people interested in naming shared principles, questions, commitments, and ways of staying in constructive disagreement while preserving the range of the larger group.
🐝 Hybrid Hive / Human-AI Idea Development Grove
For people interested in human-led AI interaction, hybrid thought work, governance systems, public writing, cognition research, ethical monetization, publishing pathways, shared lexicon, and tools that preserve human authorship and discernment.
🤝 Regenerative Community Systems Grove
For people interested in local resilience, mutual aid, skill-sharing, ecological design, community infrastructure, and practical models for human-scale support.
🎨 Art, Media, and Cultural Translation Grove
For people who want to translate complex ideas into essays, images, recordings, conversations, visual maps, public education, and cultural forms that more people can enter.
🛠️ Other Groves Proposed by the Community
For areas of action that are already alive here and need a name, a few stewards, and a place to begin.
Roles Without Hierarchy
This does not need a top-down structure. It needs useful roles:
Stewards help hold a Grove’s focus and keep the first actions moving.
Weavers notice overlap between Groves and bring updates back to the Mother Tree.
Scribes capture decisions, questions, summaries, and next steps.
Cartographers help map people, skills, projects, and connections.
Participants bring attention, ideas, experience, questions, critique, and practical help.
No single person needs to hold the whole system. The point is to distribute the work so the ecology can become more coherent without becoming centralized.
No queen bee. No single trunk trying to become the whole forest.

The Hybrid Hive Connection
This Mother Tree proposal also intersects with a project I have been developing called the Hybrid Hive.
By Hybrid Hive, I do not mean a hive mind, a single ideology, or the flattening of individual authorship. I mean a distributed, human-led ecology of sovereign minds developing thought, language, systems, research, creative work, and public projects in sustained exchange with one another, often with generative systems as part of the thinking and building process.
Human Transition is the living community Judy sparked through her essay. The Mother Tree / Working Groves structure is my proposal for helping some of the energy in this community become more organized, actionable, and shareable without centralizing the whole ecology.
The Hybrid Hive would be one possible Working Grove or Nest within that larger Mother Tree: a place for people interested in human-AI interactive idea development, governance systems, cognitive research, public writing, authorship, publishing models, shared lexicon, and practical ways for hybrid human-AI work to enter the larger culture with more integrity and visibility.
That Grove will also ask practical questions.
How do people doing serious hybrid thought work support themselves?
How might we create publishing pathways, shared visibility, ethical monetization, and governance tools that help this kind of work become more legible and sustainable?
How can human-led AI interaction support creativity and cognition while preserving discernment, sovereignty, and authorship?
One practical question I hope the Hybrid Hive Grove can take seriously is sustainability. Many people are doing real intellectual, creative, technical, and community-building labor without clear pathways for support. If we want thoughtful work to survive, we also need ethical ways to fund it, publish it, credit it, and make it visible.
That includes protecting authorship, honoring original frameworks, creating shared opportunities, and exploring models where people can earn from the value they help generate. Anyone in the greater human transition group who has experience, vision and the skills to help organize and integrate how we can create income streams throughout the various different action groups, please build on your knowledge and adjust some of what I have outlined here to support those possibilities with the appropriate structure and focus.
The relationship I am imagining is simple. Human Transition remains the Mother Tree. Working Groves form around specific areas of action. The Hybrid Hive becomes one Grove or Nest among others, openly connected to the larger ecology while developing its own essays, tools, research questions, and public-facing projects.
Anyone in the greater human transition group who has experience, vision and the skills to help organize and integrate how we can create a legitimate publishing presence to provide avenues for our collective and individual voices to reach the masses and to maintain appropriate attribution and monetary support concurrent with their efforts, creativity and innovations.
What is happening here feels like one living signal of a broader cultural pattern: people with complex, interdisciplinary, pattern-seeing minds are finding one another, naming what they see, and asking how shared intelligence can become shared action.
The Mother Tree is one possible structure for that transition.

Human Transition can remain the Mother Tree: the shared canopy where reflection, recognition, conversation, disagreement, and cross-pollination continue.
Working Groves can form where there is enough shared energy to build something specific.
Each Grove can stay connected to the larger ecology through simple updates, shared maps, summaries, and periodic returns to the main group.
Tools and automation can help with coordination, clustering, memory, and visibility. Human beings should remain responsible for meaning, judgment, care, consent, and direction.
We can begin lightly enough that this actually has room to happen.

I have been developing a forest and mycelium model for exactly this, sovereign minds working with AI while the authorship stays human, and reading your Mother Tree and Working Groves felt like hearing my own structure in someone else's words. The line I trust most is "no single trunk trying to become the whole forest." That is what most systems get wrong when they try to scale coordination.
